As a child, she watched her dear friend Krystal navigate life as a pediatric cancer patient. Krystal lived in a small home. Her bunk bed sat so close to the ceiling she could not sit up in it. Vicki saw firsthand what it meant for a family to carry the weight of illness while dreaming of something more.

She watched Krystal's family eventually fulfill the dream of building a new home. She saw what it meant to have space to breathe, room to heal, and walls that felt like a fresh start. She saw the programs that helped make that possible. And she never forgot it.
